Emanuel Calvin Brown, Jr., 61 of Charlottesville, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 13, 2014. He was born in Albemarle County on August 4, 1953. Emanuel was preceded in death by his Father, Emanuel C. "Blackjack" Brown, Sr. and his grandson Isaiah Carey. Emanuel was a very devoted member of Covenant Church where he has served as an Elder for 10 years. For the past three years, he served as the First Chair Elder or lay leader for the Elder body. Emanuel also served as an Usher and as the second service captain. He also served on the board for the Hope Community Center since its inception in 1998. A devout Christian, Emanuel was known for counseling and leading souls to the Lord, and providing comfort in their darkest hours.Emanuel touched a countless number of lives in the church as well as in the Charlottesville/Albemarle County community. In addition to his work in the church and community, Emanuel was the owner of Brown's Cleaning Service, a business he built and worked alongside with his wife Janice. He was well respected for his hard work by his customers and his employees. Prior to opening his own business, Emanuel worked at the University of Virginia Medical Center as a Transportation Supervisor for nine years. "Nook", as he was known to his family and close friends, was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a devoted friend. Of most importance to him was serving God and his family. He was also an avid sports fan and supporter of the University of Virginia Athletics, Washington Redskins, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Emanuel is survived by his mother, Lillie Garland Brown of Charlottesville; A loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Janice Brown of Charlottesville; two daughters, Naisha Carey and Adrianne Carey of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Aaryon Carey-Jackson and Zion Carey of Charlottesville; four brothers, Nathaniel Brown Sr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Mitchellville, Maryland, Theodore Brown and his wife, Vicky, of Charlottesville, William "Mike" Brown Sr. and his wife, Kim, of Charlottesville, and James Bruce of Charlottesville; two sisters, Patricia Brown Lockley and her husband, Victor, of Palmyra, Virginia, Cynthia Brown Lockley of Charlottesville; mother-in-law, Phyllis Londeree of Esmont, Virginia; four brothers-in-law, Ronald Carey and his wife, Gail, of Gordonsville, Virginia, Glen Carey and his wife, Linda, of Charlottesville, Joe Carey of Germany, David "Beaver" Londeree and his companion, Denise Young; two sisters-in-law, Charlene Austin of Esmont, Virginia, and Sandra Blair and her husband, John, of Charlottesvillle. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Covenant Church. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services. J.F.
